Provenance: Bought from the artist’s Etsy shop in 2021

A huswif is a sewing set rolled up in a fabric holder. This example in plain linen, and filled with bone accessories, is the cherished possession of one of the maids, who works the Sewing Room. Its inner pockets contain needles, a shuttle, a bodkin and other goodies which I am too unhandy to identify. We also have a patterned huswif, also made by Jennifer Pauls, which is elegant enough for the lady of the house to use in the Parlour.
