When we bought this screen, from the Etsy store of Tiny Doll House NYC, we didn’t know who it was by; we just loved it! We’re incredibly grateful to Dee Perry, who kindly got in touch in 2023 to let us know that it’s a piece by Shackman, who sold mass-produced dolls house furniture and dolls in New York. We would never have known otherwise, as it has lost its gold foil label. The screen is beautifully designed, with bevelled panels on the front, and it’s particularly unusual thanks to its hinging system, which utilises slender rods as pivots. This is destined for the Butler’s Bedroom. Smart and well-made, but functional rather than elegant, it’s perfect for an upper servant.
