I’m no expert on flowers, but these vivid red and yellow striped tulips seem to be the ‘Prins Carnaval’ variety. In this painting – a cleverly treated print, which is given the convincing texture of real paint and varnish – they’re displayed in a blue-and-white Chinese porcelain vase, the perfect complement for the family’s real porcelain on display in the Drawing Room.
