Traditional Quimper-ware has been made in the eponymous town in Brittany since the late 18th century. It is best known for its decorations showing figures in Breton clothing, which became popular around 1870. The simple designs and colourful appearance of the ceramics made us decide to use them in the nursery, where the children would be exposed to the subliminal influence of French culture. For now I have classed them under the Schoolroom, as this room doubles up as the children’s dining room out of lesson-time.
This dinner service by Victoria Fasken includes four dinner plates, four dessert plates, four soup bowls and four pudding bowls, along with a covered serving dish, an oval platter and a pair of candlesticks. It came with a set of cutlery as well, but since this matched the cutlery that came with Victoria’s other dinner service, I’ve set all the cutlery to one side together.
