I’ve loved Tang horses ever since reading Guy Gavriel Kay’s Under Heaven, and in lieu of getting a real one, I thought it would be a good compromise to buy one for Quartermaine Hall. Robert Olszewski’s figurine has the bulbous shape and smoothly arched, muscular neck of the typical Tang horses. This is rather a powerful piece to stand alongside the delicate Rococo figurines of the Breakfast Room, and probably too sophisticated in appeal for the Smoking Room, so I suspect it will be displayed in the Library as further proof of the family’s cosmopolitan tastes and collections.
