I’ve cheated a bit here. May Baldwin’s school story wasn’t actually published until 1910, but I couldn’t pass up a book with my name in the title. I’d like to think that our family are progressive supporters of a proper education for girls, and so I can imagine their younger daughter eagerly poring over the story and looking forward to the day when she also gets to go to boarding school. As ever, the appeal of the book is only partly on its own merit: the chief lure of this delicious little volume is the gorgeous cover Mariangela Gagliardi has chosen.
