Scullery Sink

Provenance: Purchased via eBay in March 2022.

This sink unit was sold as a work by Basil Smetham, but I can’t find any signature or other markings to confirm this. Sinks like this were made by a whole range of artists, and I can’t be entirely sure of the attribution. However, it’s clearly a beautiful piece of work. There’s a copper geyser fitted to the wall to provide boiling water, along with a little tap on the piping; a copper soap-dish screwed over the sink, and even a tiny plug on a delicate chain to stop the plughole. The pragmatic, behind-the-scenes quality of the sink will be perfect for the laundry room.
