Following my purchase of Leslie Smith’s beautiful still life at the Kensington Dolls House Festival in May 2022, I was keen to add more hand-painted copies to Quartermaine Hall’s collection. Barbara Wilson’s work sometimes doesn’t quite do it for me, but I was very taken with her lovely little replica of a picture by the German artist Emil Franz Adam (1843-1924). It shows ‘Prince Hatzfeldt’s Chestnut Gelding “Ascetic’s Silver” in a Paddock’, a painting which crops up a lot on the internet on poster and reprint sites, but I haven’t yet been able to track down any information about its actual location or date. I’ll add more as and when I find it. It’s signed ‘B Wilson’ on the backing paper on the reverse of the frame. And it’ll be perfect for the hunting, dogs and horses theme of the Smoking Room.

The only image I can find at present of the original
painting. Unfortunately I have no information about
its date or whereabouts at present
