Tulips were as expensive as gold during the 17th century, when a craze for these beautiful flowers resulted in a breathless race to find new and ever more stunning varieties. I hope to display some tulips in Delft vases in the Drawing Room, with the blue and white porcelain, and I thought it appropriate that the Quartermaines should have a reference book for the flowers.
