This is one of a set of ten solid books which we ordered from Mariangela Gagliardi at the same time, chosen primarily on their aesthetic qualities, as the titles on the spines are so tiny we couldn’t read them on the computer screen. It’s been rather fun finding out which volumes we’ve ended up with.

I’m a bit puzzled about this one, as I feel that I should be able to track it down, but the spine isn’t giving away much. It reads ‘Padern Carnesel’ (or ‘Carnesei’?), and there’s also an illustration on the spine of three mountains crowned with a cross, and what’s presumably a pelican – a symbol of religious charity (or perhaps a swan, which has no particular religious meaning at all!). So, I’m assuming it’s either some form of liturgical book, or a treatise associated with a particular religious order, but I’m officially stumped. But, whatever it turns out to be, it’s another lovely incunabula to add to the Library.
