This is one of a set of ten solid books which we ordered from Mariangela Gagliardi at the same time, chosen primarily on their aesthetic qualities, as the titles on the spines are so tiny we couldn’t read them on the computer screen. It’s been rather fun finding out which volumes we’ve ended up with.

Mad, bad, and dangerous to know, Lord Byron is nevertheless an essential for any self-respecting Victorian library. Again, I haven’t been able to find the exact prototype for this miniature edition, but a similarly elaborate binding and cover can be found on the 1882 publication by Gall & Inglis, so our version probably dates from a similar period.
