This is one of a set of ten solid books which we ordered from Mariangela Gagliardi at the same time, chosen primarily on their aesthetic qualities, as the titles on the spines are so tiny we couldn’t read them on the computer screen. It’s been rather fun finding out which volumes we’ve ended up with.
This volume clearly states that it’s a copy of Suetonius, and thus presumably an edition of The Twelve Caesars. The spine reads ‘Suetonius Grevii’, which sent me down an internet rabbit hole until I discovered the edition of Suetonius edited by John George Graevius in Amsterdam in 1697. I haven’t found the exact copy of the book used by Mariangela as her source, but I’m happy to have identified it this far – an essential volume for appreciating Roman history, and a fine addition to the scholarly Library.
