Artesanos Felipe Royo

This remarkably talented family of Spanish artisans comes from Zaragoza and have worked as a team since 1999. Each of them has a different and complementary specialisation, which means that their Etsy shop (trading since 2013 as MiniaturaFR) offers a wide variety of products all created at the same impressively high standard.

At the head of the family is Antonio Felipe, who took up miniature-making after his retirement as an agronomist (quite a change of career!). His wife Pilar Royo is a specialist in miniature needlework and so is presumably responsible for the exquisitely embroidered bedlinen in the shop (which, yes, I have my eye on). Their daughters Elena and Ana have been part of the team since the beginning. Elena is a decorative painter and, among many other pieces, has produced some stupendous miniature harpsichords, virginals and spinets. I would adore one of those for our Music Room one day, so I’d better get saving. Ana (whose full-size work can also be seen here) is in charge of the ceramic side of things, and I’m proud to have a few of her painted plates in the collection already. Their brother Fernando joined the team later, and studied the art of miniature furniture-making. He’s helped in assembling his various pieces of furniture by Inma Grau.

With all this talent and experience, it’s no wonder that the family shop is full of super-desirable little objects. I hope to add to our collection of Ana’s plates and acquire one of Elena’s delightful instruments. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention their wonderful line of miniature toys. I have two of their tiny peg dolls, beautifully dressed with lace caps, and they are constantly releasing new ranges of treasures for the nursery. A shop to watch!
